For Immediate Release
STURTEVANT, WI February 7, 2013 - Apple Holler was recently honored as a “Mission Driver” by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Wisconsin Chapter. This honor was awarded to organizers of “Do It Yourself Fundraiser” events that raised $10,000 or more to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s mission. Apple Holler raised $12,500 during their 2012 fundraising event.
“Twenty years ago we had few tools to treat this disease,” said Colleen G. Kalt, president and CEO of the National MS Society-Wisconsin Chapter. “Thanks to people like David Flannery and the incredible staff at Apple Holler, there are now nine treatment options for those with MS and fifteen more in the pipeline. The people in Wisconsin who are living with MS have a resource for programs and services to improve their quality of life.”
“We feel that it is so important to support the efforts of the MS Society,” said David Flannery, owner and CEO of Apple Holler. “We are incredibly honored with this award and will continue to help raise funds for MS so they can forge ahead with their research and provide services to those in need. This happens to be a personal concern for me as I have family members who are affected by MS.”
About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.1 million people worldwide. More than 10,000 children, women and men have been diagnosed in Wisconsin, believed to be one of the higher prevalence rates in the country.
